Welcome youtube my name is Fernando
and this is the first Video of Building Blocks of Programming
We need to install Raptor Visual Programming Tool which is free
and also we need to install Diagram Designer
both tools are lightweight and they are free
I will put the links in the description box
You can pause the video and come back once you installed them
So first things first, let me give you a quick overview of raptor interface
which is very simple
On the left side we have symbols on the top
the assignment symbol
is where you can set a value of a variable
so let's say we had a variable named car
we will name the variable and then the value
let's say we have 8 cars
the symbol Call
has a couple of functions you can call another subroutine (which we will learn on video 2)
this is main but you can make many subroutines
and you can call them out like that
or you can call internal functions which raptor has many functions
we also have input
Here you can enter a prompt
let's say what is your name?
and then you can give it a variable name
output as the name says it is an output
you can output to the console
or you can also output to a database file such as a text file
selection and loop are condition statements
so if you have a condition in the middle
and then you have two possible scenarios
a yes and a no then it will keep on going in the program
and then last but no least loop
and a loop is
it repeats a piece of code
so if you have something that
let's say you want to enter an employee name five times
you can put a loop to repeat five times
without having to repeat the process it would be a long code
we have other important controls
this slider is the play speed
it will control how fast the program executes when you test it
this is set at 175% so you guys can see
we have some other functions but we are not going to worry about them right now
we have an undo button if you make a mistake
you can also print out your program
and this four or five buttons
you can play execute to completion
you can pause, stop it
this you can step to the next shape
we are not going to worry about testing against server right now
enough of theory
let's create our first program
let's drag and drop an input box double click on it
now to enter strings just like any other major full blown programming language
the gotta go in double quotes
so whatever is in between the double quotes
I know you don't know this but we will get into data types later on
I don't wanna confuse you with all the data types
so let's say we wanna ask
what is your name
give it a variable name press done
now drag and drop an output box double click on it
and enter another message another string output message
is going to say hello
that's one string
then plus sign
and then we can write out variable name which is name
you see how it comes out on the bottom you can press enter
and we are done
so if we run this program
we want it slow hit the play button
you can actually see the execution of the program
right now we are on the first input box
you can see the prompt that says what is your name
you can put whatever your name is, mine is Fernando
you can press enter, or click ok is up to you
and then you can see on the console Hello Fernando
I should have put a space on the string but
but that's the basic of input output program
