I'm Bill Telepan, executive chef for Wellness in the Schools and Telepan restaurants. When
I'm cooking I like to use the freshest ingredients I can find. But even those need some seasoning
to help pull out all their flavors. It's easy to reach for the salt and pepper -- but
step away from the shakers and keep these five herbs on hand to help spice up any dish
you're cooking.
Use Thyme and Rosemary for roasted meats and fish. Dill, Basil and Chives help out soups
and salads.
Kicking the salt habit can help lower your risk of high blood pressure, heart attack
and stroke. That's a lesson we're teaching in the classroom with Wellness in the Schools
and it's one that you can continue in your kitchen at home.
