the poll numbers are out president obama's on the attack
and all of a sudden congressman paul ryan finds himself in a world of trouble
spm as wesco strip
a bottle was not missing words
he slammed rise plan is shortsighted and worse
thursday proposal pastor congress there were essentially make medicare about
assist the republican budget there was put forward
i would say
used really radical
one called project recorders
it's no mystery why the president feels emboldened
and why the political ground is rapidly shifting under arise feet simply put his
plan is
massively unpopular
a washington post poll shows that almost eighty percent of americans
oppose cuts the medicare and the name of reducing the deficit
and seventy two percent of america's want to raise taxes on the rich even
fifty four percent of republicans find it acceptable
if that wasn't enough ryan got another heaping dose of disapproval from his own
position is this week when they booed him for resisting raises raising taxes
on the record
bass
the traveled
of course the reality is that they want to lower taxes on the highest-rated
from thirty five to twenty five percent that's why he got booed
it was a five business direction when he said all i want to tax the top nonsense
and everybody knows it
and that's why he's backed religion why me
meet golf course valerie's neck
one all the sudden right
before he was all about was cut taxes for the reg job graders
but he's backpedaling and it's not just him was most rubble
even michelle bachman queen bee in the tea party
is not dissing her self
from those bush europe tax assessor's
they should try to pin the blame on obama watch
has a mom i was the one was behind the extra tax cut extension now in december
that was his position and i would agree with senior citizens for a very
concerned
are you
kidding me
bc this is what democrats get for agreeing with the republicans you should
never make that mistake now bachman is saying it was in their idea but it was
president obama's idea
to lower taxes on the richter
but the fact that she shunned or run away from the issue speaks volumes
and today more backpedaling from ryan
he told the new york times quote
i'm trying not to get into some partisan bickering war with the president i'll
see what the purpose it serves to do that
wait wait wait
you don't want to get into partisan bickering
remember at the beginning of this month when ryan unveil a so-called path of
prosperity these were the very first words in this summer
where the president has failed house republicans will lead
as effort turning this into a partisan fight
except now that you realize that you're losing that fight
all the sadness is rife alcott
is a very carefully
can't we all get along participants please please stop beating me up
over my house ranges leon popular player
pretty can be
with me now is ron brownstein editorial director of the national journal group
and everybody closer so in the lake
from the lake research partners
that we appreciate you has been here
safe and that's all right greg so let me start with you
had numbers are i think if they are they're cameras numbers for the
republicans i mean how bad can it yet
these as an ambassador and i feel i'm dying
and that we had not just numbers what we have video we have both said we have the
president of the leap roberts out this is what is your first get weeks for
demographic a long time
white-run it's not just ryan we had another congressman congressman of our
letter getting challenged
as well let me show you video then come back talking about
the
settings
did not
the
a
playin direct
that look she says you say the about this week and they all the sudden you
we'll let you guys you talk about jobs and bom
all the sudden you're saying we were basically and give it a medicare
have their proposes a massively miscalculated here
it's a big challenge for them and particular because the same bill that
converts medicare to about for prison for system
also embodies a continuation of the bush tax cuts and as you suggest
a tax reform that would lower top tax rate snap with republicans
did this same risk they face in nineteen ninety five on bill clinton are you
that they were unmet raveling medicare specifically to fund tax cuts for the
rich barack obama starting in his speech last week it was washing university has
making that same argument and it provides a vegas when it would agree
common frame for democrats to a greater extent than we saw in twenty ten i think
the ryan budget provides a way for a kind of message continuity from the top
down for democrats in twenty twelve that will be much greater
than anything we saw from them
it went into this whatever disagreements among democrats the idea of converting
ending a defined benefit character medicare converting it into a prelim
support about the system
is something that is uniformly opposed by democrats that it is a big opera cell
with the public
and ron let me say would be in for a second so
howell you know much time do we have before paul ryan winds up under a
political bus
because how i mean when you see what i mean right away that's that's bad
news
look amin in in some ways the guys are a castle what's striking to me is in
talking to people in the white house
and kinda senior strategist in the republican party they believe the events
of the last two weeks have done a lot to lock in or ready
the major component of the issue today for
twenty twelve in the sense that all but four house republicans cast a vote for
the rhine budgeted for molitor was dead on arrival in the senate
they've already cast this vote what's striking
every house republican in the district won by president obama two thousand
eight who voted voted for this budget all but one of the house republicans
the one with less than fifty five percent of the vote voted for this
budget
all but three of the house republicans industry for the above average share
seniors butter for this budget hunting whatever else they want to do in the
next two years they have already put down this marker now look eight it's
either they have some assets in this debate the public is concerned about the
deficit their concern about spending
and white seniors as someone who will tell you have been moving very sharply
toward republicans but as i said the polling on ending the defined benefit
character of medicare and turning into about that essentially leaves you buying
insurance in private companies is a very up ill sell and there are some democrats
who believe that alone
could put the house back in place
by now so let me seems to me that the only people like a rescuer publisher are
the democrats
and they're usually pretty good at that
so as a pollster we do advise them
whatever you do you do not agree with the republicans on this
when fat i wasn t but i don't think that's much of a south
and we have the perfect right factor here
we have the tax breaks for the wealthy no one can imagine that we have the
subsidies for the oil companies and you just heard in your previous story
they're making out like bandits and pirates and then we have taking away
your medicare and train you already insurance companies we don't need to say
anything else and we didn't hear any on anything else another special and i do
you have a new survey but here's the issue right
of course and activity of a press and cellular sylvester program but the fact
that
no come on that's beyond all bounds of reason right but do they might be the
issue of they go okay let's agree with the republican cut medicare
which is the current it you know base i watch the reporting the current plan
does not muddier
it does muddy and lease at the same kind of thing when social security and why is
size
democrats realizing hey that we need to just stand firm here support these
policies a majority of voters even support acs increases
their own taxes to help medicare out so we should not be going in that direction
we should say we are not going to turn you over to your insurance company we
are not going to cut social security which is also on the republican table
and out we are going to make the wealthy who haven't been paying a sheepish
and then we've been noticing themselves at our expense is about time they paid
their own share of taxes but one you know
we see *** durbin mark warner two democratic senators coming out talking
about how they have to quote unquote
reform social security which means cut social security there in the game sex
please see what do you know commercialism we see reporting on the
white house saying
well of course we have to cut very wise and of course i think this is a crazy
toddler
brother and now i'm not really tries to democrats or republicans but i can say i
don't think from either political ourselves at the point of view
it is as simple as a draw the line he has any changes in those programs i
disagree with you
i never saw it in the point-of-view democrats face the risk that you are
over sixty percent of the federal budget is now payments to individuals
and ultimately if things continue to grow at the rate they're going to
squeeze out everything else the democrats believe is important to do
particularly investing in children is all the federal budget is going to
entitlements are seniors you really ugly sliding the next generation politically
the complication is the democrats are increasingly a party of suburban cover
middle-class white voters who are deficit sensitive i mean they are that
their party of the young of minorities and a college-educated weiss
particularly women it is simply ignore the deficit is i think risky when you
know no no no no no darwinism aboard is very important i when i asked women
about this finally
because nobody saying or the deficit was saying there is a different paths
the path of the american people or totally on board for raise taxes on the
road
in his head of the bush tax cuts and get this out
huge reported a few thought it'd sosa linda
i saw at the very end of present obama speech he threw in a line about how if
we reform taxes would actually lower that rosa
no i don't do that now listen to the american people so is there a chance in
the democrats will make that
i think there is a chance it will be allowed to copy or any intimation the
weeds and that's a social security for a second
if all we get was do away with the cap which the average american doesn't even
know exists is only six percent of americans make more than a hundred and
six thousand dollars hey don't have to pay social security taxes over i mean
six thousand dollars majority they're going to even know that's true and we
tether that cap off we would have the program's solvency four decades
so there are things that we can get we're not drawing a line dancing your
changes looks very good changes and there are bad changes and let's not
forget the best way out of this deficit is jobs and to get this economy going
again and then making sure that the wealthier paying their fair share the
rest of us have been paying taxes during this recession
all right
