Don't know actually. So some studies have shown an association between obesity, lack
of physical activity, the typical restaurant diet which is generally high in red meat and
fat and not so high in fruits and vegetables have been associated with colorectal cancer,
but we don't really know what causes colorectal cancer per se. We don't know actually. Because
colorectal cancer is actually completely preventable, if you get screened for colorectal cancer,
so it maybe that people who are African American are not getting screened appropriately or
as frequently as other races or ethnicities. It may be some other biological factor that
we don't know about that causes them to get either more aggressive disease or get disease
earlier. The first thing you can do to decrease your risk of colorectal cancer is get screened
because you have the opportunity to prevent yourself from getting cancer in the first
place. In addition to that, you can certainly exercise, eat a healthy diet that is so high
in fruits and vegetables, certainly avoid getting obese, and those are the main things
you can do to prevent yourself from getting colorectal cancer.
