Here is your weekly weather briefing for the week of February 24th to March 2nd I’m Meteorologist
Erik Gustafson. If you are watching this after today, Monday, then you may wish to check
the NWS webpage or call any of the Montana NWS offices for updates as conditions may
have changed. Light to moderate snow will continue to fall
across portions of Southwest Montana into early Tuesday morning. Expect both mountains
and plains to receive additional snowfall that will impact travel from Missoula to Helena
to Billings. A few inches additional snowfall will be seen
west of and along the Continental Divide into early Tuesday morning. Expect blowing and
drifting snow to cause hazardous travel conditions across the region. Cold temperatures and wind
chill will cause dangerous outdoor recreation conditions and continued stress on young or
newborn livestock. Cold air and moderate to heavy snow look to
return by the end of the week. Expect light snow to begin over Southwest Montana by Thursday
evening. Snow intensifies Friday and Saturday with Arctic air returning to the region Friday
and Saturday as well. Many locations will likely see below zero high temperatures Saturday
with some locations dropping to at least 20 below zero Saturday night. Continued cold
temperatures, precipitation, and wind chill will cause concern for newborn and young livestock.
The 6 to 10 day outlook over Montana indicates a likely continuation of the recent overall
pattern of cold and snow with increased chances of seeing below normal temperatures, left,
and above normal precipitation, right. Here is a summary of the hazards that we have
discussed. Feel free to pause this slide for further review.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact any of the four Montana NWS offices. We are
available 24/7/365.
