Saint Anne Youth center opened it's gate at May of 2011, in Baile Tusnad, Romania
Activities are mostly connected to traditional handicrafts,
recycling and environmental protection
but it offers other free time activities for youngsters too.
First EVS volunteers came at the beggining of 2012, we asked them about their tasks and experience.
How long your EVS is going to be?
9 months, from January until October,
and now we are in our 3rd month
Where did you here about this opportunity, that you can come to Baile Tusnad as a volunteer?
Youth Association from Carpathian Basin (KIE) is located in Budapest
and I'm a member of this organization and that's where I heard about it.
How do you feel here?
Very well, thank you!
I've been here earlier last year May, on a Youth Exchange
and I really liked the town,
althoug we were just getting to know each other with the children
but I loved that too, they were very nice.
And than I decided to move here for longer period if I'll have opportunity
Children here are very open and they are grateful for everyone and very indirect with people who pay attention on them and spend time with them.
And even on my first few days, I could establish a good relationship with them during my first activities.
What do you do here as a volunteer?
Mostly we are dealing with children, we study with them and we organize handicraft activities
How is the studying activity looks like?
First we do the homework with them for next day,
usually we do it quite quickly if the children are handy
Otherwise a study-afternoon takes two hours, and after if they have any problem or they need additional help
For example lot of them have problem with mathematics,
so we are doing extra exercises.
They are studying Romanian language too, how can you help with that.
We involved local volunteers, and they know the Romanian language, and they help out with this.
Do you study any foreign language, like Romanian?
Yes we have Romanian course.
I noticed your jewelries. Did you make it?
Yes, I created them.
And are you creating things like this with children too?
Yes we are doing things like these to
with different techniques,
we tried feltmaking in many ways, we made haversacks, for easter we created eggs,
On our last activity we created jewelries. A little more simple than this,
but they are very capable and creative.
How receptive are they, for these activities?
They really love and enjoy these activities
They are looking forward for it, and we have a basic group of children who are almost always here
And we always hope that children are coming from the Child Care Home.
Children are coming from the town and from the Child Care Home too?
Yes, they do.
Are there any differences in obedience, or concentration
I didn't feel any.
A child is lively anway
No matters which side of the town they are from.
So we didn't feel at all, and it was positive hang-up,
Local children are very respectful, gentle.
Do you feel any differences between the children from Hungary? - Yes, yes I feel.
Here they respect the people.
So if I say something, they are doing their best to do that.
And I don't have to "caunt until 3" and say that it will have some consequences
if they are not behave the way they should during an activity.
What are those things that you bring home as experince, or as "moral fable".
I closed the environment into my hearth
And about the children...
...their smile, their attitude.
The creativity of my volunteer mates, their kindness
and the fact that I can actually live my own creativity
this is one of the most positive thing so far
that I can express myself and what is inside.
So the children and this fact is fantastic. And the environment.
What are you doing here every day?
Mostly the handicraft activities
like embroidary
felting, I also did these things at home before with plesure,
and creative things...
... like what can I do by different materials,
after they were used once.
And how can we recycle things surround us every day
so we can make decorations... or whatever.
What do you recycle here.
So far... during my first one month...
... for example plastic bottles, metal cans...
...toliet paper rolls, milk boxes,
books which are very-very bad condition, newspapers.
Textil materials... we used things like this so far.
And what do you do in your free time?
Well, in my free time... actually...
Honestly...
How to tell it...
What I do here I totally feel as a free time.
But... and...
And I feel very good here and I don't need that amount of free time as at home.
But for example we've been on a hiking tour up to Falcon-stone
and the view was fascinating
to look all the surrounding mountains
but beside this I like to continue or finish what we do during the activities
for example if we do little balls by felt, I love to try what else can I do by this material for myself
and this is another thing what I do... we are cooking...
Beside our regular "Board game nights" we love to play other board games, and these are very exciting.
And I love them very much.
During our free time we often help other organizations
if they have an event or activity
Like the Dog-Sledge Competition in Januray
that was an extraordinary experience for me
or during spring we planted fruit plants for the Child Care Home in Imper.
And we also helped to "Let's Clean river Olt",
These common events are always pass in a very good mood.
The company is "first class" and...
...usally we close them with a very good party.
We like to go for hiking tours
we have a lot of opportunity for this in the surroundings.
Apor-bastion is pretty close,
Falcon-stone too.
And a little longer trip but
uncommonly interesting and beautiful
the path for Lake Saint Anne.
Which is a very good activity booth with bicycle, or on foot.
Many of our friends who visit us
do these trips, when they are on holiday.
And we also find it very relaxing and a good way to spend our free-time.
The environment is gorgeous
and
these tours are refreshes us.
