I'm Sue Rose for Expert Village and this is step 4 of how to add fringe for your Afghan.
We've gone through the first 3 steps. We have cut our yarn from our skein and now I'm going
to take 2 pieces from it and my crochet hooks that I've used to complete my Afghan. I'm
going through the hole right here at the end of the Afghan, putting the 2 strands around
my hook, pulling them through and then taking the yarn and pulling it through the hook and
pulling down. This gives
me 4 things in each little thing. Then I go through my next loop that I have here, you
want it up here and then I take 2 more pieces of yarn for my skein. Divide them in half,
stick my crochet hook through, put the yarn through the hook on the end, pull the 2 strands
through and then take with the hook and then pull those 4 strands through so that I end
up with the fringe and you can see. I continue to go on with 2 strands. You're going to have
to cut your strands several times and be sure to keep them even on the ends when you're
pulling them through, go through the next loop, pull 2 strands through with an eye on
the hook, go with your hook, pull 2 more through and continue this on each end of your Afghan.
Two more strands that are even, divide them into 2 so that all 4 ends are together. Stick
your hook through the next loop, go through 2, pull your 4 strands through and tighten
them. Some people may want to cut the yarn or to make it longer or smaller depending
on what you want to do. But I have found out that it is very difficult to get them even.
So be very cautious when you're doing it to make sure that all of your ends are together.
I'll do this one more time to show you and then we'll go on to step 5 with how the yarn
looks when your Afghan is completed. Again, very even on the bottom end, put your hook
through the next hook of your Afghan, put the eye of the hook through, pull this through,
pull all 4 ends with your hook through the 2 loops there and pull it tight. Watch our next segment
for the finished fringe on your Afghan.
