It means a lot of different things. I think the most important thing
is giving
opportunities that didn't a exist to everyone. That equality
and giving opportunity is the broad definition for me for social justice.
I think of social justice ultimately "What are we after?" Right? We're trying to
make human
potential possible, right? We're trying to help realized the capacity
of the human being
be all that we can be. We're trying to affirm human dignity.
A lot of it comes from the fact that
the moment obligation for us was less about addressing a specific
injustice but more about
trying to take advantage of
an opportunity with a lot of promise. And recognizing that not
taking advantage of that opportunity would be an injustice in and of itself.
Social justice means
really making social impact in your own way.
And it can be through an organization, through a product, through an idea,
through an innovation. But really being
compelled and working towards that cause.
To have the opportunity to counseled,
and to be treated medically, and to be given the
nutritious food, and to be given the basic literacy
program I'm to giving to those children, I never had that opportunity.
So I am working to rescue myself.
So any time, one child at a time,
that I rescue a child, I feel like I've
rescued myself.
I think there comes a moment in every person's life who's interested in social
justice where you
face that moment where you realize that if social change
of the type you're passionate about is going to happen, you're really the only
the only person who's going to make it happen.
