[Guy Ryder] The subject that we have chosen
for the panel
"Restoring confidence,
jobs, growth
and social progress"
is an attempt to focus our attention this morning
on that critical issues
facing the world of work which is
as we so often say
emerging at different paces and in different ways.
from a situation of crisis and,
those realities, as diverse as as they are,
of course
mean that the realities and priorities in different countries
are very different.
And I think that the question
which has been posed
most frequently with most
acuity
over the course of our primary debates and... debate which is ongoing here
it's a simple question of where are the jobs coming from.
Particularly jobs for young people.
and mixed with that,
combined with that,
is concerned not only for generating
jobs in sufficient number
but also jobs of sufficient quality generating decent jobs and decent work.
[Carlos Lopes] Restoring confidence through jobs, growth and social progress
means inclusive
and equitable structural
transformation.
It means thinking out of the box,
of course, after knowing the box.
It means that the tripartite and representative
global forum, like this conference
must contribute to framing the inevitable intergenerational
social contract
between Africa
and the rest of the world.
Achieving the purposes of all theme requires dialogue,
inclusion,
equity, justice,
cooperation
and collaboration.
These are things for which the ILO is well known,
and which will no doubt resonates in the course of our deliberation.
