Stefani Busansky: Did you know the Americans with Disabilities Act created awareness of
the need to make parks and playgrounds more accessible to people of all abilities?
Sarah Busansky: Before there was an accessible playground in Tampa it was hard for kids with
disabilities to play. When I went to the park with my sister, there was mulch and sand around
the play area, so I couldn’t play with her because my wheelchair would get stuck.
Now playgrounds and parks are being built that make it possible for me to play with
my sister all around the park and not just watch other kids play.
Stefani Busansky: The ADA has made a world of difference for so many over the past 20
years. Find out how it was then, and how it is now as we celebrate the 20th anniversary
of the ADA on July 24 at MOSI. For more information, visit hillsboroughcounty.org.
