This video shows how to create a usual Hip Roof with a curved profile. This is possible
to do with the Roof Tool only if many levels are defined for it and even then it will be
segmented. So the Shell Tool is a good candidate for this job.
We will use the Extruded geometry method. We use the Detailed construction method and
space-click the Polyline we have drawn to create the Profile Polygon. We specify the
Extrusion Length and one roof plane is now complete.
Let us use the Free Rotate command of the Pet Palette in the 3D Window to rotate it
90 degrees into the correct position. Let us go back to the Floor Plan and move it to
its planned position.
Let us drag a copy of it… and then rotate this copy. Let us change the Extrusion Length
of this copied instance to the planned length. Let us define a Shell contour for the selected
Shell to achieve the desired Floor Plan shape.
Let us also define the desired Shell contour shape for the other Shell as well.
We now need to rotate a copy of the two Shells to create the other two Roof planes. Let us
check the result in 3D. The last thing we need to do is Flip all Shell bodies so the
Now our Hip Roof structure is complete.
