Sometimes a particularly sadistic promoter will force a really long run into a race course.
Maybe up a long climb, maybe a section of ground that's too rough to effectively ride.
Just because you can sprint through something full speed, like maybe you're a high school
track runner or something, doesn't mean it's going to be the right thing to do every lap
during the race. It takes a lot of energy to really run quickly. So instead pacing yourself
through a section is going to, you know, is going to be quicker. Because even if you make
it, you've pass five, six people, through one of these sections by sprinting as fast
you can go, they're going to come right past you, especially you know, when you get into
a more open, faster section.
