Hey Guys It's Magunamu SilverCloud here with my first tutorial!
Hey Guys It's Magunamu SilverCloud here with my first tutorial!
Today I'm gonna be teaching you guys how to upload a correctly sized image to the forums.
For an attachment, or a snapshot from SL that you wanna make it so that it fits well.
Yeah, just basically anything you wanna do.
Here I am. I'm in GAR armor, I'm on Bakura.
It's way down there, I don't wanna jump. Just Cuz it's a pain in the ***.
But the First thing you wanna do is Rezz your attachment.
Or put it on. Whatever you're doing.
You can zoom in pretty far on the Avatar.
Uhh, we'll just take a picture of a cube, just to make it easy.
Pretty Picture- It's a pretty cube. Uhhh yeah.
Next you're gonna bring up your snapshot pane.
Normally, if you've never ever taken a picture before in SL and have no idea what the hell you're doing,
Your Snapshot preview will look like this, or will not even show up at all.
You do want this to show up, it shows a nice little preview of what your picture looks like. It's not that big, but still, who cares.
If this is what yours looks like, you're gonna have to do a little bit of changing here.
You're gonna wanna hit "More" or "Advanced" or whatever the hell yours- your viewer has got.
And if it's set to E-mail it to you, you want to switch that to "Save to My Computer," just because it's easier.
The next big thing is gonna be this: The Width. The Width is the most important thing on the forums.
That is what determines whether the picture will fit or not.
Mine's set to 1280 right now, what you want to set that to is 480. That's the... that's just how wide the GAR forums are.
After you've entered it, hit "Enter." and it'll automatically change this value, the height, to 276, IF you've got this "Constrain Proportions" box checked.
Which you should, because if not it'll just come out all funky and stretched.
If your attachment had a HUD to go with it, which is a Heads Up Display, something that will appear on the screen.
You're going to want to click this button: "HUDs." Which will, once you refresh the picture, show any and all HUDs that you have on right now.
So... let's do this really quick, see if I can make my GAR HUD visible... It's not. *chuckle*
Lemme just find a quick- a HUD that I can show you guys to use.
What would I have, what would I have... GAR stuff?
I don't usually use HUDS that often- Oh I know... I can use a... LAAT HUD.
Alright so I've put that on, I'll close out that for a second, and as you can see... once it loads, my LAAT HUD.
Thunder made this, it's an awesome ship, it's just really... laggy.
Once it all loads up I'll bring the snapshot pane back up.
Come on...
Come on, you know you wanna load.
Good HUD
Alright, bring up the snapshot pane.
And notice how now it actually shows the HUD in the snapshot.
It's a really good thing, if you've got a HUD or, say it's a targeting cursor it comes with, stuff like that.
If you want a time stamp to with the picture, you're gonna wannt hit "Interface," and then refresh.
It'll make your picture a little bit smaller. But it'll also show any Names that are shown in the picture.
So let's take a picture of Me, really quick, this is.. not actually a picture, but yeah.
So let's take a picture of Me, really quick, this is.. not actually a picture, but yeah.
You can see in the preview, right here. You can't see that well, but you CAN see it.
My Name is there, also, the time would be here.
But, yeah let's take all this stuff off for a while.
Just make it easy on me.
And we'll zoom in on the Cube. Take off the "Interface," Take off the "HUD."
Again, you gotta have this at 480... 480x276 it's just the perfect number. I don't know why it fits so well it just does.
Refresh, after you do Anything
Then, hit the ARROW on save, and you're gonna do "Save As."
Now you guys can't see this but a window popped up on my screen.
And I'm just gonna save it to wherever the heck I want the picture, the desktop is usually a good idea, just so you can find it easily.
And then you can hear it. That gives you the correct picture... for uhhh. Correct sized picture for GAR forums.
I'll be back in a bit, trying to figure out how to record my browser. 'Cause all FRAPS does is record games...
Alright I think I got FRAPS working, so we're gonna give this a shot.
I'm using FireFox right now, it's just the one I like, don't hate Chrome, don't hate Safari, whatever the hell you use is fine. As long as it uploads.
This is gonna be teaching you also, how to upload it, and copy a picture onto the forum... should help.
But yes, you can you go to your favorite website for images. I use PhotoBucket, just because it's easy.
I already have uploaded it, or actually a picture from before.
Soo... yeah, here's the little demo cube, I've got it with the rest of my pictures.
Oh, no I don't want to add a title.
Click it to view it.
I really hope this is recording Firefox.
But... You can see it's a nice little size right here. you aren't able to resize it or zoom in on photobucket, which is good.
The IMG code, right here, it is on photobucket. That's a good thing to have... I like that thing...
That IMG code is there, I'll show you another way to get it in a second.
I'm already on the forums in another Tab, I'll just go to a random... thing here.
doo doo doooo, there we go. just post a random reply, I'm not actually gonna post it.
Paste
Oops,...there it goes.
But yeah, this is the correct format for getting a picture onto the forums.
All those image links and things like that you see, it's just, it's just a pain in the butt don't do it.
We'll hit "Preview" instead of submit, just 'cause, I don't wanna actually submit this.
And it'll show up looking liiiiike...
That.
See, shows up nicely.
There's other ways you can do it... other ways you can do it, there's... Lemme go to my history and just bring out a quick little... There.
I'll bring up a picture that I found...
If you found a picture on your favorite website that doesn't have the IMG code.
What you're gonna wanna look for, is when you right click, and it should have an option to "View Image" somewhere around here.
That should- That'll bring up something like this, where it's... just the picture in the browser, nothing else, no buttons, no links, no nothing.
That's good. What you wanna do with that, is take the direct URL of that picture, go back to the forum, and since we have preview up I can actually edit it.
Bring it a few lines down just to make it easy...
And hit this IMG button, that IMG button will put these two things in, these two bits of text.
That's good, those are called Hash-Tags, they're a little bit of programming crap that I shouldn't even know.
But you're gonna wanna Paste. That direct link, from right here, it's highlighted, into between these two tags. Then we'll preview again just to see what it looks like.
Loading... Close out that tab- Oh there we go.
See I can actually show the difference too here.
This is a correctly sized picture.
This is a NOT correctly sized picture... wow that's big.
But yeah, if you just wanna see the little drop-down menu with "View Image." I'll right click it.
You can actually do this ON the GAR forums too. And it'll be perfect.
That is how you upload to the GAR forums. I'll be seeing you guys later. If anybody has a tutorial that they want to request, just IM me in-world, or send me PM me on the forums. I'll be seeing you guys later. Mag, Out.
