Klaus Lutz was born in 1940
in St. Gallen
which is in the east part of switzerland
and he passed away in 2009
while he lived in New York.
and
he was a totally extraordinary artist because he made films
but based not on the digital world
based on the analog world.
And he was doing drawings,
and
drypoints
he was always thinking about literature
and he was very close to Robert Walser,
which is very amazing, when you look at his works, you can see that he was
touched by
Robert Walser's works
with all this background
also from his family, he created
an extraordinary work
which was
or which is based on the understanding of a human being
fighting against something
in the world or in the
whole universe.
Our idea was
to create an exhibition
which is able
to
to open
the different
very complex and also difficult
parts in his works to the public.
And, yeah, then we decided to do the solo exhibition
and also to do a catalog, which is now here.
We are very proud that we now have this catalog.
and
our idea is to
create an understanding of a work
which is able to bring you seemed to
different worlds of understanding of language
also to
have an understanding that art is also a language
or an alphabet.
It's very interesting when you look at his films
maybe you can think about constructivism about the russian avant-garde,
also about Georges Melies
or Buster Keaton for example.
He's so special because he realized films
based on
traditional
film collage techniques
with different layers.
He always used his drawings
for his films
and he put
in double projections in the fllm
different layers
of reality together.
and at the end you have really
an amazing world of
somebody who is flying and walking,
doing things in the universe.
And this very,
very unique
and maybe you did you do have some some memories of
of the film history, but then you see, it's
maybe some little memories but not so strong that you can say it's like
this or it's like that.
It's like Klaus Lutz.
