Hello, I'm speaking for Nipponzan Myohoji which is a Buddhist Order
Right now, they are praying for "no more war", no more nuclear weapons, no more violence
Nipponzan Myohoji- they've been walking in Japan and in America it's called Innochi no
Koji- Peace Walk They started in Hokkaido and walked all the
way through Japan from one nuclear power station to the next along with places that they are
planning on building nuclear power plants. (In each area they) are praying and sharing
their message with everyone they meet. Nuclear weapons, nuclear energy and nuclear
power stations are all the same. Nuclear power station is just a slow killer. And a nuclear
bomb is just instant. And there are many facets to a nuclear power station involving Uranium
mining. It's usually most likely from indigenous people's land and often taken without people
noticing. So the land is dug up and Uranium ore is pulled out and when that uranium ore
starts to break down, it breaks down so quickly that it transforms the cells in our body too
quickly. It also starts to pollute and go into the water, into the soil, into the air,
basically it goes into everything. All parts of life. In some areas, in terms of the indigenous
people's land, their voice is not being heard. So when people come from the outside, people
who know about nuclear energy and who have data have gone into these native lands and
spoken with them and tried to help their voice to come out and help their community feel
that this doesn't have to happen anymore. It doesn't simply go from native people's
soil to a nuclear power station, there are many stages and kinds of buildings involved.
I don't know too much about it, but I know from what I've heard. That there are many
transformations of soil to get Plutonium. And (then) to a nuclear bomb, even to nuclear
energy. In a nuclear power station 17% is used for electricity, the rest of it goes
into (the power station) being able to function. And the water that is brought in to cool these
radioactive matter is brought back into the water and warms the water by so much. Killing
the life that is in there by even a minute degree which can mean the life is destroyed.
This is happening too quickly that people are not noticing. So here we have not only
the Nipponzan Myohoji monks and nuns but also normal people who want to speak out and pray
and walk. By walking, step by step, we can share the message that we need to speak up-
that we need to appreciate the life that we have right now. Even though many of these
disasters have happened, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Fukushima, every nuclear power plant right
now is emitting this radiation and there are tests happening right now all over the world.
If we just share this information with each other, if we create community, even if it's
across cultures and families and across land, by walking long distance we can do it. slowly.
we can.
