Let me offer this word of caution though
One of the arguments that I hear many Christians use
against these extrabiblical works is Revelation 22:18
And many times Christians will, when a Mormon
brings up the Book of Mormon, he says, well
"You can't use that because Revelation 22:18 says
'For I testify to every man that hears
of the prophecy of this book, that if any man
shall add them to these things
God shall add unto him the plagues that are written
in this book.'"
Folks, in this area, I think the Mormons are right
This quotation is talking about the Book of Revelation
It's not talking about the Bible.
How do I know this?
Well, because the Bible as we know it
wasn't even put together at the time
Revelation was written.
So it obviously wasn't referring to that
It's talking about the Book of Revelation.
Know, it's not that I'm saying that it's OK
for anyone to just come along and add
scripture. I don't believe that at all.
The question becomes, even if that was theoretically possible
why should I accept Mormon scripture?
Why shouldn't I accept someone else's scripture also?
In other words, I would have a set
standard of how I would judge what
should be scripture or not.
I believe that the sixty-six books
of the Bible that we have is God's revelation.
That is his written revelation to us
And we don't add to it any longer
But I don't think Revelation 22:18 is a good
prooftext that proves the Book of Mormon is false.
There's plenty of evidence that we can use
to show that. But I don't think Revelation 22:18 is a good one.
So I would caution you from using that as a prooftext
