the most common question we get asked
after an upgrade of a major lease of SolidWorks is how to deal with the
message
the database file SWbrowser.MDB
is not the expected version for this example here
I just upgraded my system from SolidWorks 2013
to 2014 and after upgrading I can launch SolidWorks no problem
but as soon as I try to open a file that worked just fine yesterday
I get this message but this message can also show up
whenever I go to launch the tool box from inside SolidWorks the tool boxes
that library standard nuts bolts and other fasteners
it's a great way for you to quickly add components that you're going to purchase anyway
this saves you the time from having to design them
to me it's like having McMaster Carr or MSC Master catalog
right here inside a SolidWorks. Now the reason for getting this message
is because the new SolidWorks 2014 need to be using a toolbox database
that's also the 2014 version to accomplish this
their two options happen automatically behind-the-scenes
when you install the new major release of SolidWorks. A tool box database
can be automatically created by the SolidWorks installer or
it can upgrade an existing tool box automatically for you as well
but if you didn't do any of these two options
or if you just need to upgrade a tool box that you share across
a network or managing EPDM Vault there's a manual way to upgrade the toolbox
database
this is done by running the update browser data application
found in the SolidWorks installation directory. This is typically
found here. You'll need to make sure you choose the database
your system is using. This is the tool box location
that shown in your system options under Toolbox/Hole Wizard
running this application will update the toolbox to the required version.
After the upgrade you can take a look at the text file that gets generated
and see a brief summary of the process
and after that
you're ready to keep using SolidWorks in the SolidWorks Toolbox
