Will the graduates to the degree of Bachelor of Arts please rise?
The President will make her concluding remarks to the graduates of the Class of 1997.
>>FERGUSON: Grinnell's faculty and staff has worked extraordinarily hard with you
over the last years to try and assure that you write well,
that you think clearly,
that you can express yourself effectively,
and that you can make judgments for yourselves.
These are skills that will serve you throughout your life.
But we've also tried very hard,
as part of enabling you to think for yourself, and to form your own judgments,
to instill the courage to act to make things better.
While it's easy to make this statement,
most of us will discover, at one time or another in our lives,
that having the courage to do what we firmly believe is right
comes with a cost.
I wish you that courage.
You're bright, you're committed,
you're caring individuals.
Please have the courage to make a difference in the world after Grinnell.
Congratulations, please ride for the Benediction.
