00:04 COMM: Christmas is special for millions of
children around the world, but for meningitis surviver Charlotte Nott, this was one to remember
forever.
The five-year-old was treated to an extra
special present - her first ever bike.
In December 2010, Christmas was such a happy
occasion for little Charlotte from Oxford.
She was diagnosed with a deadly virus - meningococcal
septicaemia. On Christmas day, her presents lay unopened, including a brand new bike,
which she had fallen in love with just a month before.
Jenny: We got the bike and we had put it at
the end of her bed just so that we knew it was there on Christmas day.
COMM: Charlotte has shown breathtaking courage
throughout her illness, even when her arms and legs were amputated below the joints.
But devastatingly, she has never been able
to ride the bike her mum Jenny bought for her.
Jenny: She did try, just persevere, just to
like cycle three metres, she would just spend like an hour trying, trying so hard.
COMM: But this year her dreams have finally
come true, with a new specially designed three wheeler.
The four hundred pound bike, made by Pashley,
is even pink. Her favourite colour.
Jenny: It's really exciting today because
Charlotte has waited long enough and so it's really great to be able to give her the bike
today.
COMM: With her new set of wheels, it looks
like nothing can stop little Charlotte now.
Jenny: I think she'll hopefully sort of remember
that when she's older, yeah, having her first proper bike.
