Never before has it been so easy to connect to our personal information
via devices such as this iPad. With one simple click we have access to confidential and personal
information that can be forwarded to many other sources. Hi I'm Kris Snyder CEO of Vox
Mobile and today I'd like to talk to you about developing your mobile device policy with
security as its cornerstone. As with many of our IT policies there are two primary components:
the technology aspect and the people component. First off, as we look towards the policy compliance
piece, we see that there are hundreds of IT policies that can be implemented by technology
pieces such as the Blackberry Enterprise Server. Even Microsoft ActiveSync brings 40+ IT policies
to bear. However with something as simple as passwords, organizations often overlook
them for terms of convenience. The most contested component of security and IT policies within
enterprises today tend to be around wiping of these devices. Especially when you start
to contemplate that there is more than just company information on the devices; there's
pictures videos games it all depends upon what the organization is allowing the employee
to put on it. The complexity goes one layer deeper if its actually a personally owned
device thats connecting to the network. Does your policy account for the opportunity to
wipe it in its entirety? I hope so. As we look at the overall cultural component of
this, i.e. the people component, we start to ask our question, "why these devices different
than PCs?" Mostly because there's a personal nature of what we allow these devices to do
within our enterprise, especially as these devices become more social within our organizations.
We have one more video blog to go as it relates to developing an IT policy. The next one will
focus on the actual support. At the end of our three-part series, we will actually then
look through the generic mobile device policy that Vox Mobile will be putting out on the
blog. I look forward to taking to you soon, thanks.
