What better than to end an awesome evening like this than with Luke Skywalker's first
adventure, Star Wars: A New Hope as it later came to be called.
John Williams music has in many polls been voted as the best soundtrack ever.
You have heard the main fanfare, you have heard many of these leitmotifs so many times,
and what is so great about John Williams music in this film is the way it tells and how it
follows us through the adventures and events. So why don't we listen, and maybe even close
our eyes a little. This is one of several suites which was developed
in 1977 from John Williams original music to suit orchestra concerts like this one.
It's called "The Battle" and it takes us through the latter part of the film. It starts with
the Death Star's own theme, Obi-Wan Kenobi's death, the hunt with TIE Fighters from the Death Star,
then the attack on the Death Star... The Battle of Yavin.
I think quite a few of you will hear the stuff inside your head when you hear this suite.
You will hear Luke yelling "Noooo" when Obi-Wan Kenobi dies.
You will hear Darth Vader say "The force is strong with this one" (though with slightly deeper voice).
And you will certainly hear Han Solo screaming "Great shot kid, that was one in a million."
That is what this concert has been as well, one in a million.
To get the chance to make the concert of your dreams with one of the world's best
orchestras: the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Many thanks also to Anders Nilsson, the concertmaster.
To get to do it with a beyond all reason dedicated conductor, Michael Bartosch.
...and with an audience that truly is "Out of this world".
Thank you so much. This has been "We Come in Peace" and this
is "The Battle" from Star Wars. "The Force Will be with you, always".
