What drives you on YouTube to go through the grind of making
videos all the time and the business stuff?
What is your motivating passion that
drive you through all that?
I got a lot of different motivations.
One, like in terms of making the videos,
I have an obligation to the people who watch them.
And if I mess that up, then I feel really bad,
like deeply, deeply bad.
Which is why we haven't missed a video in a really long time.
But also, like in terms of beyond just making videos,
like the VidCon and I just care about it a lot.
I've gotten really involved and I
think it's really interesting and maybe even important.
If there weren't people watching,
I wouldn't be doing it.
I would have quite a long time ago.
But I know that there are people who come back every single week
and watch.
And that's what's driving me to do it,
to know that if I'm not making a video I'm letting them down.
I love the adventure of it all.
I love just sort of figuring stuff out, talking about things
because I really view my videos as sort of like, here's
what I think about whatever.
And then I turn it over to the audience.
And then it just becomes this discussion,
this little community on the internet.
And I love it.
Connecting with the people.
Giving them content they love and engaging with them
and having them get something out what I put on there.
And I love to see somebody that is struggling with something
that I can help them with actually find my video
and go, wow, that made a difference in my life.
I think that's what gives me that boost to be able to say,
yeah, I can do another video.
When I started to realize the influence that YouTube has
and realizing that it is possible to influence
the lives of people in a positive way
and really make a difference in people's lives
with really a positive message that could change
their life in a small way and just bring them
some inspiration or some hope, or in a deeper way, if there's
a relationship formed.
Well I do what I do because I want to help people.
That's just my primary goal because a point in my life
where I wasn't doing so good and now I'm like way out of that.
And I just want other people to be
able to learn from my experiences.
And that's my primary goal is to see people like strive
and succeed the way that I am.
And having fun with my family when we're making these videos
and just knowing that years from now
I'll at least be able to look back and say, you know,
this was a good time.
We have a lot of fun doing this.
However successful is is, it is, but yeah,
I think just having fun with it.
What motivates me is just having a spark give an idea and not--
sometimes I do talk myself out of it--
but when I don't, I always end up
making something that I'm really proud of.
I don't know a lot of friends who
like the same things that I like.
So I kind of made a big group of friends
online that I can share my stories
or share my favorite new TV show with.
And so I think it's great they're not really just fans,
but they're also friends because we have so much in common.
And you get to meet them at places like VidCon, right?
Exactly.
That's the best part is meeting everybody.
I love having fun with friends, getting together with really,
for the most part, other people I've
met from YouTube these days it seems to be,
and love just having fun together.
And I love being able to take that and in creative ways
mash it together and make a video that I enjoy watching,
and again, I think other people enjoy too.
We have fun doing it.
We'll have a bad day and turning the vlog on all of a sudden
our attitude changes.
When you're in a bad mood and a friend
calls and you answer the phone.
And by the time you get off, you're like,
oh, I feel so much better now.
It's kind of like that.
You turn on the camera and start talking
to these people in this box and you're happy now.
My friends are here.
Let's go.
It's just so cool to be able to create content,
to create entertainment especially,
and you have full control over it.
I've come from the acting world and so
I've been on projects where you're just there.
You're doing a part.
And it's fun, but you know, it's someone else's project.
And I still enjoy doing those, but it's so nice
to be able to create something and you
have full control of how you want it to be presented.
And that you also get to engage with your audience afterwards
to see how they feel about it.
That's just a wonderful thing about that.
I've never had up until this point.
I guess it's probably the comments people
leave, the ones that are just really like oh, I love you,
you're the best.
And it just makes you feel so good.
And a lot people are like, when's
the next video coming out?
Please hurry.
And like, OK, fine.
I got to get another one out.
So that's what keeps me going.
It's the viewers and the people who comment really.
That peer pressure kicks in.
It does.
It does.
It does.
I just create content that I love,
or at least I try to create content that I love.
And then when I see it do well, it's
more of a drive to keep on going.
And my videos are always determined
by how my fans react to it.
So if they love it, then it's like an extra push.
And if it doesn't do well, then it's like,
I've got to do better.
So either way it's kind of another enforcer to go forward.
I'd really love to hear from you guys
in the comments below about how you would answer
this question about what drives you
to do what you do here on YouTube.
I think this is a really important question for us
to wrestle through and think about
because how we answer that question will determine
how we define success.
It is just because we're trying to make a lot of money?
Is it just because we feel insecure
and we need other people to personally affirm us?
Or is there something else going on that ultimately will just
lead to discouragement and frustration here on YouTube?
The reason I do what I do is because I really
believe that a lot of you guys have messages
that could change the world and really
make people's lives a lot better if they just
heard the message you have to share with them.
So that's why here at Video Creators
I do my best to teach you guys how to master this platform
called YouTube, how to use it to spread your message,
and hopefully, change people's lives.
And so as long as they see that happening,
I'm really motivated and driven to keep
doing this for you guys.
But I want to hear what drives you guys to do
what you do here on YouTube.
And please be honest with yourself.
If you don't like the actual answer,
don't come up with another one.
Just be honest and real.
And thank you for sharing.
Subscribe if this is your first time here.
And I will see you guys again tomorrow
for our YouTube Q&A. Bye.
