My name is Tami Galt and I invented the portable Fold-It & Go Wagon.
It's like a children's wagon, only it folds up like a camping chair and fits into a bag
so you can take it with you and when you're out having fun you can take your kids or toys
around in the wagon.
My idea came from going to the farmers market and having too much to carry. My back always
hurt afterwards and I'd be full of bundles, and so I looked around and everybody was using
these old lady wire carts and I figured I would never be old enough to look like a little
old lady in a wire cart.
But I saw a few people with little red wagons and I thought those looked so cute but I couldn't
fit them into my car, so I thought there must be a way to make them fold down easier so
you could fit them in the car.
But then I had my first child and was really busy with that so it just kind of sat in a
notebook for a while. But one day my boss was yelling at one of my coworkers at work
and I'm like, I gotta do something else. This isn't working. So I just looked through my
book of ideas and looked at which one I liked the best and said that's what I'm working on.
When I first came up with the idea I thought, oh, this is kind of a crazy idea. You know,
who likes wagons? It's kind of juvenile. But I'm just gonna do it for me, ya know? I'm
not gonna design it for other people because it's kind of a silly idea. But I really wanted
one. I love anything with wheels. I just love wheels. So I thought it'd be cool.
Then I got my husband to agree to start spending some money on patenting and all that fun stuff.
I have two children. My daughter Cameron is almost eleven and my son Powell is eight.
They both love gymnastics. Last year we went to my son's baseball game and my daughter
was really tired from doing, like, six hours of gymnastics the day before, so she just
camped out and took a nap in the wagon, happy as a clam.
I think my personal benchmark is when it's in every big box store, every major retailer.
I want it in that store, that store, that store, and that store, and then I'll know
I've made it.
