Good morning Roman and thanks so much for taking the time to see me today
to discuss all of these fantastic and diverse media covering
we have here for HP wall decoration.
This is a really exiting business opportunity for us
and I´m keen to learn more about it and tell my customers.
I agree it´s really exiting.
There is big business here
and with HP Latex printing technology
we can print onto a lot of different type of materials for wall covering,
a lot of different brands.
There are many ways of installing wall covering so a lot to learn.
If you are interested, let´s go to my lab and I will show you a little bit more in detail.
Absolutely, let´s go!
Roman, nowadays people are still using this self-adhesive vinyl for their wall coverings.
Has this media work differently or perform better than self-adhesive vinyl wall covering?
Well, you know, HP Latex technology works great on self-adhesive vinyl
but personally I don´t like very much doing wall covering with vinyl.
There are several reasons for that.
One big reason is I don´t like this plastic feel
and I prefer much better the woven and non-woven feel on the wall.
Another reason is that there are not going to get big margins
with installations with PVC on the walls,
so that would be kind of the key reasons.
Also, in order to install this you need to be an expert installer.
Things as simple as removing the liner is OK then sometimes you might get this issue.
So you need to know what you doing and then when you are installing this on the wall,
well you need to be a professional because if not you will get wrinkles very easily.
If you want to remove the wrinkles, you need to remove the material
and very often you are going to destroy the wall.
So, only professional who know how to apply that can work with this type of media.
You see…
I can see exactly what you are talking about;
it´s very difficult to apply and event to remove
and the damage that creates afterwards is incredible.
And there is this plastic feel mainly.
So that is amazing Roman
I can see how difficult it is to actually apply
and the feel and look that you get from adhesive vinyl; not great.
Let´s move on to this media over here.
There is such a range to talk about.
Could you give us a bit more insight on what is all about,
more on which one should we choose?
You should know three parameters.
That is the minimum you should know about any wall covering that you work with.
The Base, what is the material made of.
The Coating, is it a coated wall covering, is it an uncoated one.
Installation.
So, if we talk about the base can be just paper.
That would be the cheapest of all.
This is a blue paper can be used for wall covering you can tear either way.
It´s OK but is the cheapest of all.
At the end is good to have a good range.
The thicker ones are the non-woven,
and non-woven is not only paper
is paper and polyester fibers.
Why polyester fibers? Well because then you have something very stable
and kind of expansible that is very, very strong.
So, it´s very difficult to tear this away.
The non-woven are the most typical ones.
Fantastic!
Then we have the woven ones. That is a textile in fact.
They are very strong.
They are kind of the high end.
So those are the woven ones.
And then as you mentioned the plastics, PVC, polyester …
Another very important parameter is the coating.
You might have uncoated wall coverings.
HP Latex works great with uncoated material because the ink stays on the surface,
as oppose to other technologies such as solvent inks.
Solvent inks are very aggressive;
the ink goes into the material so the resulting image is very pale.
With HP Latex you keep the touch and feel of the material,
of that un-coated material and the colors are very bright.
This is a great option since Latex is a versatile technology
and can even work on uncoated material.
You might be willing to use coated material for wall covering
and then you need to know about the coating;
is it a PVC coating? or a PVC-free coating?
So, with PVC-free coating does it mean that I can use it on areas of humidity
or with walls that have moister and dampness? Does it breathe?
Yes, in general I always choose the non-PVC coating and this is one of the reasons,
because you don´t know about the nature of the wall,
so non-PVC coating ‒ apart of the fact that they don´t include PVC ‒
they will allow the humidity to run through the material so they are breathable.
That´s great!
Roman what about sensitive environments?
I´m thinking about standards; mainly for our customers.
They keep asking about it more and more.
For example, sensible areas such as schools, hotels, even hospitals.
That is where HP Latex technology is really strong.
You know HP Latex technology is water based printing technology
as oppose to solvent technology
so there are no hazardous air components in the print or around
and this allows the technology
to be implemented in hospital, restaurants even schools.
There are the right certifications in place to be able to decorate even schools.
That is good to know for my customers.
And another very important parameter that you should know
when you take a look at wall covering is how it is installed.
You might install a wall covering with glue, the traditional way.
You might use just water; there are materials that come already pre-paste.
You might be working with a self-adhesive.
Or you might be working with magnetic materials.
As you can see, there is a whole world of possibilities
and HP Latex opens you the doors to all these possibilities,
and is important to know that because the more you know
the more you can offer to your customers.
Fantastic Roman! This is great information to me
and I didn´t really know that there is so much background into choosing wall coverings.
Once I selected the media from my vendor,
how do I know about printer and RIP setting?
Especially when it comes to accurate color
it seems a real challenge in itself.
That is a good question; you might know about a website, we call it Media Solution Locator.
There you will find hundreds of profiles of different types of media
that are compatible with HP Latex printers.
That is the place there you can look for your material
and there you can download the profiles to be used with you HP Latex printer.
Thanks you Roman for your help and for all this information today.
I feel a lot more comfortable and confident in approaching my customers
and promoting these products.
It has been a pleasure and I hope that all this information
will help your customers grow their business.
