My iPhone is stuck in recovery mode. What can I do?
You could take the phone to an Apple store. They've got so called geniuses who could fix
it.
What if they can't fix it? Or won't?
In a worst case scenario, they can replace the phone if it is still under warranty. If
it isn't under warranty, you could buy a new phone.
iPhones are expensive. And what about my data?
I hope you backed up your data to either iTunes or the iCloud, because if they can't fix it,
the data is gone.
I shouldn't have to use I-whatever services to backup my data.
The Apple techs could probably restore the phone by doing a reset to default. The default
iOS works, but this will wipe out any apps you've installed and data you had that isn't
backed up elsewhere.
At least when Windows says they'll do a recovery, they mean they'll recover your data.
At least Apple has several backup options that quickly recover your data. In fact, a
lot of the data may be stored in the Apple services simply because you have synchronized
data.
What can I try myself, before driving to an Apple store?
Hold down the home button until iTunes comes up saying it has detected that the phone is
in recovery mode. Then you might be able to get it to back up your data or connect to
iTunes.
That didn't work for me.
Did you hold down the buttons for at least 15 seconds? Or rerunning the software updates
that failed.
I already tried holding down the buttons, several times. And I banged the key pad on
my bed a couple times, just to try to bash some sense into it.
You might be able to install the software on an iPad and connect to the iPhone to run
it. Or you could just take it to the Apple store.
If Apple was filled with geniuses, why does it lock up so often during updates of the
iOS?
I don't think they really care about us, just like every other cult.
