Tom Watson
I am Professor of Public Relations in the Media School.
I have been here for 6 years. My best achievement would be either the formation
of the History of Public Relations Conference
which started in 2010, which we are now running for the
4th time this year. It's a truly international conference
we usually have people from 15 or more countries.
And it's really put BU on the
map in terms of Public Relations research.
Essentially allowed me the freedom to form something that
appeared to be quite a niche, a specialisation and to develop
it and it gave me the platform in which to do it.
I've got the IT, social media support and I've got the
support of colleagues so it has all come from within.
I always see a Professor as a leader, a Professor is there to
research, encourage others and act as a mentor particularly younger, academic staff.
One of the things that we have developed within the Media
School in recent times is the public relations research group.
And it's taken a very active role with some of our younger academics.
It's a place in which you can come and work and develop,
and you will continue to develop. There is lot of effort and
resource going into research and support for research at student
level, at junior staff level and at higher level.
I think we are on the rise, and I think it is a great place
to come to develop your career.
