Welcome to the first video tutorial for SportsPress.
We're going to assume that you've already downloaded
and installed the latest version of WordPress. If you need some help getting
started with that,
I recommend you check out our Getting Started with WordPress video tutorial
and then revisiting this video later on.
Now let's go ahead and grab the latest version of SportsPress
which is available from the WordPress dashboard under Plugins
then Add New.
You can also download SportsPress directly from the WordPress plugins directory
but we're going to install it from the dashboard this time.
Once you've installed and activated the plugin, you'll notice that some new links
have appeared
in your sidebar. I'll walk you through these one at a time
but first let's head over to the Settings page to select the sport we'll
be working with.
In this demo we'll be selecting Football, or "Soccer"
for us American English speakers. Now let's head over to teams
and create our first team.
We're also going to want to create a league and a season
so that we can organize our data as we move forward.
We can add a
short blurb about the team in the text editor
and let's also scroll down to the Logo section and upload our team's logo while
we're here.
Go ahead and hit that Publish button.
Let's quickly create one more team so that we have someone to play against.
Great! Now let's add some players.
Click on the Players link in the sidebar, then Add New.
Let's name our player and add some basic metrics like height
and weight.
We can also add a profile in the text editor and some details
like his squad number and nationality.
We also want to select the team or teams
he plays for, as well as the leagues and seasons.
Near the bottom you'll see a Positions box and a link
to add a photo.
Let's go ahead and
save this player. And we'll quickly create one more player
for the other team.
You can also add staff members to the
team which is a similar process to adding players
so I'm going to skip it for now. Now that we've added some teams
and players, we're almost ready to schedule a game.
But first, let's add a venue by clicking
on Venues under the Events sidebar menu.
Enter the name, address,
and save.
Now we can head over to Events and click Add New.
You can
add a name for the event but SportsPress will generate one automatically
based on the teams playing if you leave it blank. All we need to do here
is select a league, a season, a venue,
and the teams playing.
Head over to the Event section up at the top and change the date
and time to when the game is happening. Go ahead and hit that Schedule button.
And there we have it. Our first game has been scheduled.
You'll also notice that we can select some players. Let's see how it looks
using the default Twenty Fourteen theme.
Of course you can use any theme with this plugin although you may need to add
some styling to make it look the way you want.
There are also a number of premium SportsPress themes
available from ThemeBoy. You can check those out
at ThemeBoy.com. I hope this tutorial help you get started
with your team website. Feel free to check out our other tutorials for more
details about
each feature. Until next time, have fun!
