Photos of unknown people, which will be shown at bus terminals here (WHAT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU?)
in São Paulo, were taken here at Favela do Moinho, and today the photos were (WHAT IS YOUR STORY?)
pasted on the walls in the favela, on the walls of the sheds. Those living
in the community will be able to see them projected over the old silos here,
of the community. The community is called Favela do Moinho...
The photos at the entrance of the “escola de samba”’s hangar
are in contrast with what we can see inside:
5 families living as they can after the fires that destroyed
Favela do Moinho, in São Paulo downtown.
The images show happy people,
smiling.
“Sad inside, but outside everyone is happy.”
A team of 15 photographers spent
5 months at Favela do Moinho.
The group is part of the Inside Out Project, with actions in more than 9,000 cities
all over the world.
To give visibility to people and their stories was the main purpose of the
Inside Out São Paulo we did last year
with Favela do Moinho’s community.
This year we are working on an Inside Out Rap Comunidade, whose aim is also
to show people, mainly those whose stories give identity, through
art and culture, to their communities. “What is important for me now, at this stage, is
working with what I love, which is singing, it is rap, to be on the stages, singing, working with what I love, this is important for me.”
Since February we are photographing and interviewing rappers we have met at Favela do Moinho
and also in other neighborhoods, in Guarulhos and in São Vicente.
“The Inside Out Rap Comunidade is important for me because...
of the appreciation of human beings through photography.
The purpose of the Inside Out Comunidade is exactly this, the appreciation of the human being,
the apprecation of people, the appreciation of the local, the appreciation of the community.” The purpose of
the Inside Out Rap Comunidade is showing these people and their stories.
What is important for them?
What are their stories?
It also aims to give visibility to their work
and to be a space for dialogue and meetings
between communities and society.
“Funk is the same
as rap. It is the ghetto, the favela,
do you see it? Many are against it, and others are for it,
and we say like this, even at Ducorre:
‘It is like this, it doesn’t work, not everything will be perfect.
There are days we are f*, we are in despair, but don’t give up, don’t give up.
Listen to the radio
because that is our mission. Come with us, because we are on the run.’
Come as you are, it may be “forró”, reggae,
what is important is that your message will be expanding, going forward.”
Along the project we will organize performances and other events for showing
the work of these rappers and musicians, like the pocket show we organized in March.
In the second half of the year the photos will be printed and pasted in São Paulo, Guarulhos and
in the Continental Area of São Vicente. We are also making
partnerships for other actions at that time, like projections and
shows. We invite you to participate, as a volunteer, partner,
supporting our crowd funding campaign. Making all this possible.
What is important for you? We count on you to tell this story.
