How do bodybuilders get low body fat? They eat so much, it seems like a contradiction.
They eat a mixture of high protein, low fat and low carbohydrate foods to fuel their workout.
And they eat 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day. Most people would get fat on that diet.
And they are burning just as many calories if not more with their workout. Bodybuilders
count calories so well Weight Watchers would be happy to adopt them.
I think you're thinking of Jenny Craig.
Never met her. But body builders get such low body fat because they are burning as much
as they take in.
That's a neutral energy equation, I think.
Early in their workout, they are burning more calories than they take in if they want to
lose weight. If they are trying to gain weight or bulk up, they'll eat a diet that favors
muscle growth but without any extra calories to get stored as fat.
What happens if they stop working out?
If a guy continues eating 3000 calories and stops burning them, he'll get fat faster than
a girl sitting on the couch eating bon-bons.
So they end up on a low calorie diet and low body fat.
There are weight lifters with zero percent body fat, though that isn't healthy.
It sounds ultra-healthy.
It means that if they burn more than they eat, they'll burn muscle. That's the opposite
of what these guys want.
Ah, like having no savings in the bank though you might have to spend more one week than
your paycheck.
Now, too much fat is bad for you. Too little is bad when you get sick or have no reserves
when you can't eat.
Yeah, but I can imagine a lot of those body builders could chase down dinner like a caveman
and eat well in the apocalypse.
They’re training for strength, not speed, so they can’t catch dinner unless they can
lift it up and drop it back down on the ground.
That’s sounds a lot like a Wylie E. Coyote skit.
