One of the most desired setups when running MarketPress in a MultiSite installation is
what some are calling the Etsy-style site setup.
Etsy is a network on the web that contains a variety of easy to setup stores that anyone
can join into.
the best part about it is that Etsy takes a percentage of the money of every sale coming
from the sites within its network.
You can do the same thing yourself with MarketPress. To begin you'll need to make sure you've got
a MultiSite installation of WordPress and that MarketPress is enabled in MultiSite.
Next we're going to go back into MarketPress settings in our network admin.
The 2 main goals we're accomplishing here is separating every store into its own separate
entity within the network of stores and then setting up everything to allow us, the network
owner to take a cut of all the sales that are generated in those stores.
In order to make sure every store is separate from the rest, we must make sure Global Shopping
Cart is disabled. This will ensure that every time a person checks-out, they are only checking
out from each individual store separately.
Make sure this setting is no.
Secondly, we're going to set up chained payments, which is a way of linking a payment through
another account first, before it gets sent to the seller. This is how we pull our percentage
out of sales by having the payment pass through our account, drop-off our payment, and then
having the remainder sent to the seller.
To do this, we're going to be using Pay Pal chained payments.
Now this process is a little complex initially because it requires you to have an approved
application with X.commerce. Simply click this link to be taken to the Pay Pal page
with instructions on getting yourself setup. You'll need to have your application approved
and then using the credentials given from your account, fill in the information in the
boxes provided below.
This top box here is where you'll input your fee. You can enter the percentage of every
sale you would like to collect for yourself on your network.
whenever a new seller joins your network and sells new products in their stores, you'll
take this much of his sales as a fee.
It's also important to know that you will only receive commision on the methods you've
setup for it. So if Pay Pal chained payments is what you are using you may want to disable
all other payment gateways for other stores on your network.
Now all of the gateways will always be available for your main site, but others that are set
up by users will be restricted.
Skipping down to the box at the bottom of this first section here, you should input
a message to your store owners about the fees to sell on the network.
It's always a good idea to be upfront with everyone on your network.
You can also choose to place any other sales related message here which will display in
the payment gateway settings when the seller sets up their own marketplace.
With your X.commerce credentials placed, and these settings selected as desired, scroll
to the bottom and click save changes to update your settings.
