I love that video clip. I think it is a
great example of how you can take some dry, kind of boring academic material and make
it fun, motivating and successful by incorporating music and humor. Let’s take a look at the
music part first…
You might have noticed that I had slowed my tempo down in the beginning to meet Savannah’s
tempo. She was singing at a slower rate than I was playing. So, I met her where she was
at and that made it a much more enjoyable, successful experience for her. That’s one
of the benefits of doing live music as opposed to recorded music because with recorded music,
you’re pretty much stuck with what you have.
In terms of the humor, I don’t know if you could understand it, but it was putting the
‘work hard’ in someone’s hair. “Let’s put it in her hair!” That was a fun, little
piece that again livened it up, made it a little more fun and motivating.
Going back to the music, you might have also noticed how after Savannah recognized one
of the words, then we would get lots of repetition in by singing it over and over and showing
her the card. With music, you can get lots of repetition without the monotony.
I hope you enjoyed this video clip and tune in to see more at therhythmtree.com.
Thank you.
