working-age people have now passed our children and the elderly when it comes
to those who are in need up the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program or snap
also known as food stamps out now this is a bit of an issue because the
majority of these people are not just working age their part
love the working poor so even though they're working
they still don't make enough money and they still need the government to help
them
now a lot love conservative the republicans would make the argument that
hey you know this is happening because
their dependency on the government they don't wanna work they're not trying hard
enough
but the reality is a lot of these people are working they're just not getting
paid enough
and they're not getting paid a living wage now just to give you a sense of how
much congress wants to cut these programs in November Congress allowed
increases to the program enacted at the start
the recession to expire reducing benefits to about nine
to eleven dollars per person per month and reno value down to an average less
than one dollar and forty cents
per person for each meal okay
certain outlook overall I mixed feelings I on
the scanner program trade I I so pardon me this concert this is if you give
people an appointment for long enough to the Michael hooked on right
and is somewhat true welfare I
export welfare reform that's that's a little different because people got it
the
right um but look at the numbers
a dollar forty per meal it's not like
we're you know Hui giving you mad King's
beast and then all while I was understandable they got home town mad
every
really you get hooked on a dollar forty per meal we're coming into work ID it
every day yeah and I love when members of congress
decide they're going to do like a cutesy experimentation to see what it's like to
live on a budget like that
and they go win not realizing how difficult it really is and they come out
realize wow you know
these people can barely eat they can barely afford to eat something
nutritious
you see what i'm saying so I'm really interesting statistics on
our workforce because of course when it comes to these governmental programs
there is that assumption that these people aren't working enough
but they're lazy and they're just dependent on the program's the reality
is a lot of them work but minimum wage is so low that they just can't make ends
meet
so if you look at 2007 to 2011 52 percent the fast food cooks cashiers and
other front-line staff had relied on at least one former public assistance
such as Medicaid food stamps and it burned income tax credit program
and not cost up a lot of money in fact if you look at
the US fast food industry they make two billion dollars a year in sales
but they cost us billions upon billions Adarsh three-point eight billion dollars
per year
I'm in the government money because their companies are paying them enough
and the 10 largest fast-food companies in the US cost taxpayers more than 3.8
billion
each year in public assistance because the workers do not make enough to pay
for basic necessities themselves so that's the
other huge factor that leaves me towards I not cutting staff programs right
because it be one thing if you paid a decent wage
and somebody could work at him in a minimum wage job or a fast food job et
cetera
and have enough food for themselves their family so only when minimum wage
is a seven thousand 25 cents when you by the way it kept up with productivity
since the nineteen sixties
productivity me how well you work how much you produce
BB at about twenty four dollars an hour now right
but he didn't because they on purpose captors incredibly low
so then you turn around you go yes you're working but we're paying you so
little you gotta go on public assistance
when a bomb but I'm not a bomb you can just up a BM
workable wage rate so I know there's some people that get government
assistance
don't work as hard as they should it's a naive to think that that doesn't exist
made
but the bigger problem is a much larger number people who are working
it's the only money to help feed their kids and again opinions that's dollar
forty
per meal and the republicans are not turn around and cut it is not just a
problem so one
more thing about that so usual Republican Democrat
car fighting it over the SNAP program right
so what did the this Senate Democrats won
they want to cut about four and a half billion dollars over 10 years and that's
the democrats and Moon Bay
now the house the republicans one we kinda bite
$39 billion dollars over 10 years number
so looks like right now they get a compromise on cutting it
by eight billion dollars over 10 years okay now
the road with her on to go well that's close to the democratic number the
Republican number
so Democrats won no no we do it
good democrat senate para position to begin with they agreed to cut it
yeah done and to it but the car did they agree to cut by Fort half-billion
dollars
and then what do they do they wanna doubling their concession
right so that's how the republicans would be demand such draconian
ridiculous cuts
yeah but the democrats have no choice but to die I mean look I would have a
choice
like all you want to come by 13 I believe essentially I wanna
add to buy $39 billion yeah I also got the right way to negotiate I mean
republicans know how to negotiate
they know how to bully democrats into getting exactly what they want
and I hate that I he bit Democrats in Congress Armstrong ger
because the reality is a billy eight million dollars is it million or billion
a billion
cheeses Christ I mean how much more could you possibly cut it
one in seven Americans independent on this %uh SNAP program
not because they're all lazy third depended on it because this
damn Republicans refuse to increase that Republicans Democrats as well
refused to increase the minimum wage you meet a living wage
it's that simple so %uh on the minimum wage to give their has a tiny bit more
crackers or at least trying there but here
I think they lose on purpose they get paid by the same guys
the same corporate guys who want their corporate taxes cut
want the taxes for the rich got and get it right
and then turn around and go home I gotta golly gee we suck as democrats
oh okay republicans you win let's cut the staff program by a billion dollars
and the gee I wonder how we got income inequality tour is that we give you less
and less
for your the job that you're doing will you be less and less assistance
we take all that we give it to the rich intermittent terms of tax cuts
the democrats pretend if I did but in the end the republicans win
