>> Robert: Rachel is very positive, she has an outlook on life that is always encouraging,
wanting to be involved and wanting to have other people happy with her.
The type of work I do or support I do with Rachel is we do the day to day necessities
which is personal care. All the things you may think to do for yourself we support Rachel
in doing for her. We always talk with her, include her with what weíre doing and she
respects that, she knows that she has a voice. One of the many things we do together is our
shopping and that starts with organising menus and the food thatís required to fill those
menus along with other house mates. And together then we organise taxi and we then go and fill
out the list of groceries and Rachel follows in
the chair, makes sure I don't miss anything.
Rachel helps with preparing food. She'll
come into the kitchen and mainly present her company and talk to you and at times when
there's something to be cut up she'll help with that but more often itís at the end
in the wiping up and cleaning up after meal.
Rachel loves writing cards. Every time, every
shift I'm on we generally have a card to write, a text or an email or a Facebook communication.
But the cards are a favourite because we can sit down and do a draft. She's already picked
the picture that she wants and she loves a certain picture for the certain person she
matches it up beautifully. But generally speaking this way of communicating for her includes
her friends in her life daily.
Rachel goes to post schools services twice
a week. It is creative to have a bridge between the school activities and the big world if
you like out there in society. It helps the people involved to interact more, they go
on outings, they do lots of different exercises and crafts and communication skills that enable
them to walk that bridge.
>> Elle: It's really good, like if we do
actually come over itís really good to see like she is a grown up person who has her
own individual life and that's really nice. It was something that you dreamed of when
you were little.
And was that because I was already out of
home too and you wanted your own independence? >> Samantha: I think that was a big thing,
because Elle had already gone to uni, so she thought if she can do it so can I.
