The Chambersburg die forger is designed to run on clean, dry, compressed air, which is
environmentally safe. It utilizes zero leakage, poppet type inlet and exhaust valves and does
away with wasteful, noxious cylinder volumes. Operation is simple as well as efficient.
The ram is held in the raised position by the low pressure lifting air trapped in the
lower part of the cylinder. At each blow, a supply of high pressure air is carefully
monitored in the upper side of the piston and is allowed to expand, accelerating the
ram downward until all its intrinsic energy is exhausted. The amount of air admitted determines
the rams striking velocity and blow energy. The die forger is ideally suited for repetitive
production. Its variable controlled applied energy capability limits the use of energy
to the power that is required. This avoids over-striking and increases die life, reducing
the risk of die and equipment damage. Because the die forger is programmed to deliver accelerated
blows over a relatively short ram stroke, up to one hundred blows a minute with higher
levels of applied force and energy, it can actually increase production by more than
twenty percent.
