The floods completely destroyed our school. We could not study.
Before the floods hit in 2010, this school building was okay.
When the floods hit, this building became damaged and parts started to fall down.
There was water inside and the children were afraid of studing here because of the snakes...
...and the building falling on them. They didn't want to study here.
I then decided to teach the children outside.
[Amir Khan] The reason I came here, I want to build that awareness
so people realise how serious this is, because you know this is a big, big disaster.
As soon as I got here, you know, and I'd see the flood, and the places like this, and the young
kids who have been affected by it, it just upsets you because they've totally got nothing.
It's hard to explain how bad it is, because you have to come here yourself to realise how
serious it is and how bad it is. And I've come here now not thinking it's going to be this bad, but
coming here now and seeing it all, it's really bad.
Well you know I was in Pakistan around about
six to nine months ago, last summer and
I wanted to do my bit because so many were hit by floods where over
fifty to twenty million people were affected.
And I did promise the people in Pakistan I'm gonna do my bit.
We want to build two schools in Pakistan and that's what we want to do, so
that's the reason I've got this event. I've called all of my friends and business partners
and
a lot of other outsiders who want to show their support, and
we're going to have an auction, dinner and
hopefully a few events. It's going to be a great night.
When the school was being built, the children were very happy.
They were praying for the people responsible for helping to rebuild the school.
They asked me who helped build the school.I told them Amir Khan, they said they will pray for him.
When we came and saw the school we felt ecstatic, the school was really beautiful.
It had chairs and everything we needed.
We will come and study with passion.
There are now books, benches, electricity, writing paper and biscuits. All the things we need.
Thank you Amir Khan.
