Hey everybody, it's Joseph Palumbo with the Rackspace Cloud and do you ever wonder what
my day job is here, other than making these awesome videos? Well I manage a team called
the Rackspace Cloud Launch Team, and it's a group of usability experts dedicated to
helping customers get the most out of their cloud usage. Now, I created this team a couple
of years ago because I started getting frustrated when I couldn't help customers because there
weren't certain options that weren't available to them because they made certain decisions
on day one, on day five, on day ten when they first moved to the cloud.
There's a term that we use to describe that and it's called Technical Debt. Essentially,
all this is saying is that decisions you make early on when you move to the cloud and design
your configuration, that's going to dictate and have a lot of influence over what options
you have, or don't have, on day 100 or whenever success comes knocking at your door.
And when you're a Racker and you're wired for Fanatical Support, you want to do everything
you can to help your customer, the idea of technical debt is very real. So one of the
things that you should really talk to Rackers about anytime you call in for support or you
submit a ticket is "How do I design a configuration that is going to be within my budget, but
is going to give me all the options I need for the growth and stability that my business
is going to need down the road?"
In a previous video, I talk about how important it is to use a Cloud Load Balancer, it's the
single biggest advantage that you can add to your config because it allows you to scale
horizontally. That's just one example of the types of things that the Cloud Launch Team
will talk to customers about.
If you you're interested in talking to that team more, you can reach us at launch@rackspace.com
or if you want to come hangout with us, you can check out Rackspace's Google+ profile
for the date and time of our next Google Hangout. We'd love to talk to you live on the Internet.
I hope that this was helpful, and as always I'm Joseph Palumbo and I will see you on the
Internet!
