This video will provide overview of the free online tutoring services available
through that AskOnline platform.
AskOnline allows students and tutors to work together
through the use of various tools and interactive features, both asynchronously
and in real-time.
Tutoring is provided to help you better understand and work through the topics
from your course on your
own, so that you successfully master the steps involved and can apply them in the future.
To access AskOnline, login to your online course.
If tutoring is available, you will see a “Course Tutoring Available” link on the homepage.
The information available at Introduction to AskOnline link
cantains everything you need to know about using the platfom and tools,
including technical information and tips for a smooth user experience.
While this video will provide a brief overview of AskOnline,
should you need a refresher or more detail, the information at this link is your best resource.
When you are ready to access the online tutoring services,
click the Online Tutoring link in the course toolls menu on the left.
The first time access AsOnline,
you will need to accept the terms of the legal agreement,
and then proceed through several screens of a tutorial.
For each subsequent access, you will be taken directly to the homepage.
When you reach the AskOnline homepage take note of the Announcements box,
Where key reminders and information about online tutoring will be posted.
Click the title any of the announcements for more information.
To get started tutoring, click the Subjects tab near the top of the page.
You will see a list of courses for which online tutoring is currently offered
along with links to specific services available for that subject.
Let's take a quick look now at each of those services.
Clicking on AskOnline under your course on the Subjects tab will take you to the
Ask Tool.
Which allows you to privately send questions to tutors to be answered the next time
a tutor is available, similar to email.
If your questions and a math based, you might find the Equation Editor to be a
handy tool for entering formulas and symbols.
You can also attach files for the tutor to view.
If you previously submitted a question, it will appear at the top of the Ask page,
or at the My Questions link
under the My Activities menu on the left of your screen.
Replies from the tutor will also be accessed here.
Please allow up to 24 hours to receive a response from a tutor.
Clicking on Discussion Forum under your course on the Subjects tab will take you
to the Discuss tool,
where you can post questions to a collaborative, public discussion forum
for tutors and peers to review and answer.
Typing a question here is the same as in the Ask tool.
When you post a new message, it will be immediately accessible for viewing and
responding by your classmates,
peers in other sections of the course and subject tutors.
A list of all discussion threads for the subject will also appear at the top of your
screen.
Click the name of the thread to view the discussion or add your reply.
You can also see all discussions you have contributed to
you to My Discussion Posts link under the My Activities menu on the left
of your screen.
The Chat tool is utilized for both public drop-in hours and private appointments.
The hours of availability will be listed on the AskOnline homepage in the
Schedule section.
Drop-in hours are a collaborative forum which can be accessed by any student during
the available hours where a tutor will be present,
and are noted with the phrase "No Appointment Needed".
Private appointments are one-on-one sessions with a tutor,
requiring an appointment to be set at least 24 hours in advance.
Please note all times shownin the schedule are in Central Time, so you may need to
adjust accordingly for your time zone.
By default, the schedule for the current day displays when you access the AskOnline homepage.
To schedule a private appointment,
select the day you'd like to meet with a tutor,
locate your course or subject to view available appointment times,
then click on a time frame.
Provide the exact time you'd like to meet and any notes or information you'd like
the tutor to know in advance.
You may also upload files for the tutor to refer to during your appointment.
You can also view the schedule by a week
or for the entire month.
When viewing by week, the public drop-in hours are listed at the top of each section,
followed by private appointment times.
Drop-in hours can be accessed by clicking on the Subject tab, then Chat.
The Chat tool allows you to interact with the tutor using tools such as a chat box,
an interactive whiteboard, and an equation editor.
Private appointments are conducted through this same Chat tool, but in a private session
You will receive an invitation to join this private chat by email
once your appointment is confirmed.

There are also several handy features you can utilize to enhance your online
tutoring experience with AskOnline,
such as the built-in alert and notification tools.
Set this up through the My Account tab near the top of page.
Under communication settings select My Alerts.
Here you can establish for what type of events you'd like to receive alerts,
such as a new discussion message or reply to a question you have asked.
Alerts can be customized for a certain subject and type of user,
and can also be received via AskOnline's internal messaging system,
internal alert system,
and outside of AskOnline through email or text

When you are finished and AskOnline,
please remember to click the logout button to close out your session.
