>> I first started working only in the rheumatology clinic seeing patients
with rheumatic diseases, but then I was invited to participate
in the specialty osteoporosis clinic within the endocrine division.
And our specialty osteoporosis clinic offers consultation to patients who have complex cases
of osteoporosis and who then can be cared for by a rheumatologist, a geriatrician,
or an endocrinologist, and then some of our cases where we need input from our colleagues,
we can get it on the same day because we're all working in the same clinic today.
In rheumatology clinic, most of our patients come to us because they're in pain, and my,
when I was a little kid and wanted to be a doctor, my idea was to relieve suffering.
So it's a very good match for me to be a rheumatologist because when people come
in with chronic joint pain, we have so many different options now for treating that pain,
and you may have been aware that there's a lot of different commercials
on TV now different treatments for rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis.
And so that really is because all kinds
of new biologic therapies are now available to treat those diseases.
And so we have a large choice of treatment options to offer our patients
and improve their pain and their quality of life and prevent disability.
