Hi, I’m Kirsten.
And I’m Ben.
We’re here to give you the quick and easy guide to visiting local candidates
in the lead up to the Federal Election.
The election is just around the corner
and so far we’ve had strong support from all sides of politics for the NDIS.
But now we have to lock in that support.
Visiting candidates might seem daunting but we’ve broken it down into five steps
to make it as easy as possible. So let’s get into it.
Find your candidates and their contact details by looking them up on the Every Australian Counts website.
All you have to do is enter your postcode and the candidates will pop up.
Send an email to each Labor and Coalition candidate in your electorate.
Explain you’d like to meet with them to talk about why the NDIS is so important to you.
We’ve got sample letters on the website to help get you started.
Follow up your email with a phone call to request a meeting.
You will probably speak to a staff member, that’s ok they will easily be able to organise the meeting.
Meeting your candidates is easy.
Remember, they want to hear from you – they’re after your vote!
We’ve got a tool kit that goes through everything you’ll need to have a great meeting.
It includes talking points and how to ask the candidates to show their support
and materials such as signs which you can take along.
The most important thing to remember is that your story, your experience,
is the best way to show your candidate why the NDIS matters.
Tell your candidates about your hopes and dreams for yourself or your family members.
Tell them the difference the NDIS will make to your life.
This is the most important thing you will do at the meeting.
Ask your candidate to declare their support for the NDIS by having their photo taken
with an “I-Count” sign – just remember to print one out and take it with you.
If they’ve already done this, ask them to do it again.
And remember to send us your photos through the website.
The final thing to do is tell us how your meeting went.
Fill in the form on the Every Australian Counts website and don’t forget to send in your photos –
when we receive them we will add them to our election photo gallery.
That’s it. Five easy steps.
All you have to do is go to the website and you’ll find all the information you need.
Thanks for helping make sure the NDIS is locked in for good –
the work we do now will mean our politicians know they must keep their word.
