Hello everybody, it's Joseph Palumbo again from the Rackspace Cloud and today I want
to talk to you about cloud questions you didn't even know that you had. As you can imagine,
I get asked a ton of questions from customers and from Rackers internally, and that's where
we get a lot of the content for these videos. But today I want to talk to you about some
of the questions that I don't hear very often but I think that are very, very important.
And the first one has to do with performance, so in most cases, when people say that they
are looking for performance, they're actually looking for load time -- how quickly does
their site actually load. Well, there's actually a big difference here. Performance can mean
a lot of things, but in most cases, when you try to increase the performance of your cloud
server, you're talking about increasing the cost of your configuration, you're adding
more resources to it.
But if you're looking specifically for load time, which is what a lot of customers are
talking about, there are ways that you can actually increase your load time, or rather
I should say DECREASE your load time while simultaneously decreasing your hosting costs,
and that's by using our Content Delivery Network, which is built in directly into Cloud Files.
I've done a video about the CDN previously, and just high level, it has to do with a geographically
dispersed network of caching servers that help deliver your content to your site visitors
all across the world. But the bottom line is one of the coolest aspects is that you
don't have to be a cloud customer in order to use this. If you're hosting here at Rackspace
on a physical server, on the cloud, on private cloud or even in your own datacenter, you
can leverage a Content Deliver Network to help your site load faster and give a better
experience to your site's visitors while all at the same time lowering your hosting costs.
So one thing you should be very cognoscente of is are you talking about server performance
or are you talking about load times. It is a very important differentiation to make.
I hope this was helpful, if you have any questions, as always call us anytime here at Rackspace.
I'm Joseph Palumbo and I will see you on the Internet!
