D.F.I.D. Permits Military to Request Humanitarian Funding. In 2005, I was reviewing that documents
whereby the British Department For International Development was discussing, debating, and
planning to allow military organizations to bid for quick impact projects.Part of the
mandate is to promote sustainable development and eliminate world poverty as an international
development leader in times of global crisis. Sounds impressive, does it not? So why would
a humanitarian development organization begin colluding with the military where they participate
as combatants? D.F.I.D. normally provides funding to the United Nations and to international
nongovernmental organizations. Quick impact projects are meant to close a humanitarian
gap with minimal bureaucracy and maximum efficiency and rapid implementation. We have enough problems
maintaining separate identities between belligerents and aid workers in warring countries. If D.F.I.D.
joins the club that is funding combatants and humanitarians, it increases the problems
of security and aid delivery.Keep the military out of humanitarian operations and protect
humanitarian space.Shame on you D.F.I.D.
