Man goes out to his work and to his labor until the evening
The sluggard does not plow in the autumn; he will seek at harvest and have nothing.
For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.
Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.
And he said to them, Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.
As a door turns on its hinges, so does a sluggard on his bed.
Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.
The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.
Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.
Bring the full tithe into the storehouse,
that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts,
if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until
there is no more need.
They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing
up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold
of that which is truly life.
The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who
have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are
excellent and profitable for people.
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means
fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell.
You are the salt of the earth, but if
salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything
except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You are the light of the world.
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a
basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let
your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to
your Father who is in heaven.}
