When I'm recording, I can always look at my meters to see if I have a good signal to noise
ratio and if I'm clipping. Good signal to noise ration is one of the most important
things about recording. You always want to make sure that you have a good sound to begin
with. You always want to make sure that you start off good. You know what I'm saying?
You don't want to be, you don't want to have to fix anything that you can't take care of
within the recording. If you record well, you know what I'm saying? The idea is to record
well so you don't have to do that much to make it sound better. You want it to sound
good on the way in. So, the most important thing you always want to make sure you do
is not distort. Over-distorting is going to cause like a problem, it's going to be like,
it's going to be over the zero threshold and it's going to cause sounds that are unpleasant
and it's going to really make the whole mix, deteriorate the whole mix. When doing this
you can always look at the channel meters, you can always look at the top. Whenever it's
red you can always clear the peaks with this button right here. That's going to take out
all the red. This is going to ensure that you're not clipping, and you can always adjust
the faders to make sure that it's under the zero threshold, and that no point during the
song you're going to get red. It's very important in digital recording because digital recording
there's no real room for any type of space like that, any type of clipping. With analogue
recording, you know, sometimes you can get away with a few little clips and things like
that, but in digital it's very precise and you don't want to clip.
