We spent a lot of time talking to people with different conditions about
the challenges of eating and drinking.
One of the common topics that comes up is being able to use a normal looking
cup or mug.
The idea behind DUO was to create the means of adding a second handle
to a normal mug to have all the benefits of using both hands to lift the mug
but be able to continue using your own.
DUO is shaped to clip around a mug and has two silicon grips to hold it in place.
It has an open, economic handle which is easy and comfortable to hold,
it can be used on mugs that have mostly straight sides and fits diameters between
70 to 90 millimetres. It clips on before you put your drink in
and then you can grip your mug with both hands making it ideal for
people with limited dexterity, muscle weakness or tremors.
The wrap-around design also protects your fingers from the hot mug surface
which is good for people with reduced heat sensitivity in their fingers
It's not designed to replace the original mug handle
so you need to use two hands but it does give an extra point of contact
which gives you more control when drinking.
The key benefit of DUO is that you carry on using your own mug but have all the
extra stability and control of having two handles to hold on to
you can also take DUO out with you to a friends house and rather than having to take
your own mug
the chances are that DUO will fit onto one in your friend's mugs.
DUO increases the functionality of something you already have
making it a truly inclusive product.
