Since 10 years, a Venezuelan´s team of doctors and engineers
have developed a system to carry out cerebral surgeries
guided by computer in order to minimize the risks by human miscalculations
They call it Neuronavegador PANACEA developed in the University of Carabobo
allowing to calculate location, form and volume of the lesions with precision
and to observe in detail the operating process
It´s a matter of a development of highly technology where countries as the United States and Germany
have like development culminated these equipments, the ones that permits us to carry out a safe surgery
quickly, with less complications and to achieve a rehabilitation and therefore low costs
NeuroPANACEA counts on a software that processes mathematical data of magnetic resonance
and tomography from the patient
building 3D images that will be to use as a maps guide during the surgery
The images we see them sideways, as if we were from above downward
in different cuts, different heights, also views in coronal, that is to say
as if we did a cut of ahead backwards, permitting us to see in those different plans all the anatomy
that this in relationship with the problem that the patient has
During the operation the surgeon not only is guide with the images in 3D
that the computer has created from patient´s images and processed with the software
also with a 3D series compositions that are constructed from the data that it provides
by electromagnetic sensors (Ascension-Tech) and localizer
that are placed around the affected region of the patient
Besides, with this information is possible to plan the surgical strategies before performance surgery
and to see beyond the area that itself this treating detecting the risk zones that one must avoid
like arteries, veins and nerves that should not be injured, all that in three dimensions
So that everything that be done in the real world is repeated in the virtual world
all the procedures that be carried out in the real world, the penetration, track, artery location
the location of a tumor with the neighboring anatomy
will be repeated simultaneously in the virtual world with precision
