ArchiCAD 16 introduces new IFC Geometry Import options.
Activate the File... File Special... IFC 2x3... IFC Translation Setup menu command to open
the IFC Translation Setup Dialog.
In the Import Options Panel, click the new Conversion Options button. A new subdialog
opens where you can specify how certain IFC element types are converted during IFC Import.
The first field controls the conversion of IFC Sites. Three options are available here:
- you can choose to convert the elements into Morph elements, in which case you will be
able to edit their geometry in ArchiCAD;
- you can choose to convert them into Object type ArchiCAD Library Parts, which will not
be editable;
- or you can choose to import all elements without conversion. In the latter case, no
geometry, not even 2D lines of the IFC Site will be imported into ArchiCAD.
The second field controls the conversion of IFC elements with complex geometry. This normally
includes any element that cannot be converted into ArchiCAD construction elements: such
as Walls, Slabs and so on.
In this case you have two choices: to either convert them into Morph elements or to convert
them into ArchiCAD Objects.
The third field controls the conversion of IFC Distribution Elements.
These are the element types that in previous versions were converted into ArchiCAD Objects
and were recognized by MEP Modeler based on their Object Subtypes.
This same conversion option is still available, and additionally you may choose to convert
them into Morph elements.
Generally it may be stated that the Morph options should be selected for these two latter
fields if you wish to edit the geometry of these imported IFC elements. The Morph option
is the default option for IFC Sites as it is the more flexible of the two options.
IFC Site geometry import is also more accurate in ArchiCAD 16 because it now supports all
of the various ways site geometry may be represented in IFC files during both export and import.
