Hi, my name is kelly hansen. i'm the ceo of icon medical billing.
and also a former medical billing instructor. when i first started my
company three years ago, one of the biggest decisions i had to make
is what type of software i wanted to use to run my company.
and, being that i've had some
about fifteen years of experience in the medical field, as well as
teaching medical billing, i've been exposed to quite a few softwares and
obviously one of the main ones, the ones we teach our students
on and one of the main ones in the industry is medisoft. and
that really wasn't a direction i wanted to go in when
i was starting up my own company. so, i got on google and
tried to find what other options out there were available.
and i came across kareo. and one of the main
things that struck me about kareo was the fact that it is
web-based. being that i worked at an office and
teaching, you know how much that hipaa security is important
and being able to have the software backed up
redundantly on a remote server, and not having to deal
with that added level of complexity actually in
my office was definitely a plus. and also
the fact that it was web-based meant that i could offer the software
to our clients, as well.
as an outsourced billing provider, some of the things that i see that are kind of a setback
to the provider is that they don't really know what's going on.
somebody else is doing their billing... and, especially if the provider was
used to doing the billing in-house, they're used to having a level of visibility
into what is being done and that gives them a sense of comfort
so the fact that this system is web-based and they're able to
go ahead and use it or peek into it in their own office
was definitely a plus and a lot of my
clients actually do choose to install kareo on their computers
just to kind of peek in there and see exactly what we're doing so
that is definitely one of the main selling points when i was choosing software.
the way we use kareo that actually is
quite helpful to us
there are certain features as an outsourced provider that actually help
us sell our services to our clients above and beyond
just them being able to install it in their office. one of the great things
has been being able to create a superbill, which is one of the options we have
with our subscription package. a lot of providers, when they
sign up with us... they're kind of in that phase where
they're transitioning from an old antiquated paper system
to doing things more electronically. and
many times we have providers that sign up and they're sending us superbills
that have codes on them that are
maybe deleted... or they're outdated codes that we can't use or the superbill
was just extremely poor quality that it's hard for my employees to decipher...
a lot of times it's hard for even the provider's employees to even deciper
or the providers themselves. so the fact that we have that ability to go ahead and
generate a superbill, a brand new superbill... we let the providers know that we
scrub all their codes, we make sure that they've current and we can generate a
superbill to send to them that really has been
something that's been helpful on both ends. it provides the provider with a nice
new superbill that is actually current and up to date with all the correct codes
plus on our end, we have a
static copy to use as a reference
we know exactly what's on the superbill. you know for some reason during
transmission i may not be able to read a code, or we have
the hard copy of that superbill and we've actually created it, so taht has been great.
