We are a multimedia shopping community with 90 million-plus cable homes in the US, and
we are obviously online and have been so for 14 years. So we have a fast-growing ecommerce
business and a really solid television business. We are very excited about the future potential
of our merging platforms.
Now back up to last year (2008), when we were really looking for some opportunities to test
new ideas in a website, accelerate our growth and really take advantage of the timing as
the business was starting to get better. We really wanted to accelerate and innovate.
The issue that we had is that our IT team was fully engaged in some really important,
massive projects. We wanted the ability to try to go after some of our [marketing] ideas,
but at the same time be able to test them so that we were not putting our current business
and platform at risk or taking away valuable IT resources during the time we really needed
them to be fully focused on our bigger projects.
