What was the aim of the conference?
Today's conference is a result of series of activities within the ESPON-INTERSTRAT project.
we are trying to encourage national level policy-makers to use results of an EU research programme,
that investigates the development of the EU territory within various topics such as transport, energy, environment
and also social issues such as demography, or urban development, so these projects are of spatial character.
How one can use ESPON results?
In the Polish context the potential use of ESPON results is the process of creating 9 integrated national development strategies.
These strategies are based on Poland 2030 report.
And it's a first attempt in Poland to integrate over 200 sectoral strategies into 9 clear documents
but also certain philosophies on how should our country develope untill 2020.
What will be the base od Poland 2020 developement perspective?
At least in the context of a strategy that integrates other strategies - regional development strategy -
there was a fundamental change in the philosophy, that was inspired by the European territorial development concepts
The most important element of this strategy was shift from seeing Poland as a east-west or north-south transit country
towards seeing it as a spatial network. That means that the priority is not to drive through Poland as fast as spossible
but the priority is to connect Poland's largest cities, so that people can connect easily in both physical and institutional terms.
