Hello, my name is Denise Xu and I am a client services associate here at the
Medicare Rights Center.
The Medicare Rights Center is a national not for profit consumer service
organization that works to ensure affordable health care for older adults
and people with disabilities.
Today I am going to talk to you about appealing to Medicare.
If you are denied a service by Medicare, you should appeal that denial.
Only between one and two percent of those who are denied by Original Medicare,
Medicare Advantage or Part D plans actually appeal those denials.
However, more than
half of people with Medicare who are denied
either receive more care or more money.
The appeals process can be long but it is certainly worth the time
because there is a good chance you will win your appeal.
There are several stages to the process and deadlines you must meet
depending on what type of appeal you are filing and how soon you need a decision.
Visit www.medicareinteractive.org or call our national
consumer helpline at
800-333-4114 for help with your Medicare appeals.
